What do you need a WiFi QR Code for?

A WiFi QR code is one of the most practical QR codes out there. Instead of spelling out the password to guests or writing it on a note, simply hang up a QR code – scan, done, connected. Especially popular in restaurants, cafés, Airbnbs, doctor's offices and offices. But it makes sense at home too: print it once and stick it to the router, so visitors can log in themselves. The QR code encodes your network using the open WIFI standard – all modern smartphones support this format natively, without any app. Enter your SSID (network name) and password, choose the encryption type (WPA2 for modern home networks) – and get a ready-to-download QR code instantly.

Scan WiFi QR Code with iPhone & Android – here's how

  • Native since iOS 11 & Android 10 – standard camera app is enough
  • WPA2 standard: secure, supported by all modern routers
  • Encode guest WiFi separately – main network stays protected
  • SSID = the visible network name from the connection list

How it works

WiFi QR Code in 3 steps

1

Enter SSID

Enter your WiFi network name – exactly as it appears on your router. This is the SSID (the visible network name).

2

Choose password & type

Enter password and select encryption type. WPA/WPA2 is the standard for all modern home networks and routers.

3

Download QR Code

Download as PNG or SVG, print and stick – on the router, at reception or on the table.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the WiFi QR Code work with iPhone and Android?

Yes. Both platforms natively support the WIFI QR format since iOS 11 and Android 10 respectively. Simply open the camera app and hold it over the code.

How do I scan a WiFi QR Code with an iPhone?

Open the Camera app (not the QR scanner in Settings). Hold the iPhone over the QR code – a notification automatically appears at the top of the screen. Tap it and the iPhone connects to WiFi immediately. Works from iOS 11 without any app.

What does SSID mean on a WiFi QR Code?

SSID stands for Service Set Identifier – that's the name of your WiFi network, i.e. the text you see in the network list when connecting. You can also find it on the sticker on your router or in your computer's WiFi settings.

Is the QR code permanently valid?

Yes. The code is static and works as long as your WiFi password remains unchanged. If you change the password, you need to create a new code.

Is my password stored anywhere?

No. All processing takes place locally in your browser. Your WiFi password never leaves your computer.

Which encryption should I choose?

For almost all modern routers: WPA/WPA2. WEP is outdated and insecure. 'None' only for open networks without a password.

Can I add a logo to the QR code?

Yes. In the design section of the generator you can upload your logo – it will be placed in the centre of the QR code.
